Happy New Year!
Horray! I'm back! (lots of clapping in the background, a few girls screaming and reaching out to touch the computer screen). wow its been a long time since I blog-ed. So much has happened since I last wrote. Nygaard, King and I where transferred to the 1-133 Infantary division, we spent a week training/getting to now our new fellow medics, then we had about 2 weeks Christmas break. My break was great, I spent time with friends (who had mostly took the same amount of time off so I wasn't lonely), I saw some movies, ate some food, ate some more food, partied at night (sometimes in the afternoon), and slept alot (sometimes in the afternoon). I heard that alot of my partners in crime here from Camp Shelby did alot of the same, all in all it was much needed and well deserved. Of course, no sooner where we back and we hit the ground running. Today we were up at 4:30 and out to the firing range firing weapons. Tomorrow we get up at 5:30 for some running (4 miles, I shouldn't have smoked so many Marlboros over break..) then we run through some medical training exercises. The next 2 months are going to be very busy for me, on the 8th I leave for the field till the 18th for some field training, so I may be outta contact that whole time. OK the number that was posted on the earlier post won't work for me now, that phone gets no signal here so.....thats kinda poopy, I'm stuck with what little communication I can do with the Intro-net. OK my peeps, its time for my beauty sleep, ha, ha, ha, you guys are thinkin' "Damn, he must sleep all the time then." You guys are to much, but you know I love ya gol-dang-it. I'll try to keep you all posted as to my goings on. Have a wonderful, prosperous, fullfilling, happy new year! Sincerely yours...Troy.

In Communication
Merry Christmas!

Troy is in Minneapolis right now. We're enjoying cocktails and yummy food. He doesn't have access to his home voicemail, but he got a mobile phone. The number is 651.399.6082.

Troy brought lots of pictures and video of him flying in a BlackHawk, and Dave will be posting those on the site as soon as we're done celebrating the holidays with Troy...

Notes from the "Fields"
Hey everybody..it's Jon here (Troy's buddy from Minneapolis). I'm writing right now on the phone with Troy. As he is talking, I here mortar explosions in the background. I ask him about it and he says that a couple of jeeps with guns on top just went over to check it out..I guess it's some sort of exercise. It sounds like he's havin a good time and doing well..here's what he had to say...

[From Troy] So, I haven't had access to the Intronet because I've been in the field a lot so that's why I'm calling in a blog entry. So, lately we've been out at FOB (stands for Forward Operating Base). Most of the Companies have been staying out at FOB learning to operate as one battalion. All of our training up to this point has been Company-oriented to get our individual skills up and now we're seeing how it all fits together.

Basically, we're going to spend an average of two weeks out at FOB and Op.4 (actors that are playing insurgents). Op4 is either when soldiers are attacking our base or trying to infiltrate with either planting IEDs (improvised explosive device) in the road, trying to bring them on the base with vehicles, suicide bombers, or snipe/mortar round attacks from the tree line. For 2 weeks we are running 24/7 reacting to their attacks. As far as our specific Company is concerned, we are dealing with the wounded and casualities in these fake encounters.

For example, evacuating soliers to air evacuation of patients with helicopters, how to deal with wounded POWs because they get the same type of medical treatment but also being treating as prisoners. And we also have our own Trama setup to deal with trama situations.

The training will continue until the 10th, so communication from the people here in Mississippi will be noticeably less frequent. I'll be sure to be taking as many pictures as I can because pictures can tell a good story of what we're doing.

Tomorrow night some of us will be talking to our First Sergeant about which Line Companies we will be going to and when. So, hopefully, I'll have more information on that this weekend.

On a really good note...only 19 more days until we get to fly home. And everyone here is pretty excited about that! I know I'm looking forward to getting back to seeing my friends. Even though some of us will have spent the last 3 months together, we plan on getting together at least one day over Christmas to meet each others' friends and family. So, I'm looking forward to seeing some of you.

That's all for now. I will try hard to always keep you posted. Once we're done training in Mississippi, the communication flow will hopefully be much better. People seem to have better communication from Iraq using the Internet so I'm hoping I'll be able to keep you much more informed once I'm deployed to Iraq.

I would like this to become more of a diary than just something I update once a week.

Thank you all for visiting.

Over and out...

All is well
Hey everyone, its Heimer with a little more reassurance for those of you at Home. This week we are to be moving into combatives (hand to hand training). We still have the gas chamber left, but that won't be much. And the culture awareness class should be this week. We are attempting to stay to a schedule, but there are lots of things that come up and we just roll with it. We did discover that on Thurday nights we can opt to sit in on some classes to learn Arabic. We still have no information on which units we will be joining. Troy and I did recommend that we stay together at least. We do imagine that we will be with these units before we go overseas, at least for a month or so. I know Troy is excited to be able to be in one of the most honored positions in the military, the line medic. I am also for this prospect, as much of our training has been in the field setting. Granted Troy and I are effective in any environment. I am hoping that we go with the Cavalry, it will be a great adventure. We will do everything we can to keep you guys as informed as allowed. As you can imagine we get busy sometimes, and may take a week to get online. I hope you all have a great Turkey Day. --**Weisenburger**--
